Thursday morning's heated discussion on ABC's "The View" about the use of a certain word following leaked footage showing Rev. Jesse Jackson using the N-word in a Fox News interview, left co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck in tears as Sherri Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg struggled to explain their points of view.
The two statements of apology issued by Jackson since his remarks didn't stop a new controversy from breaking out on "The View" as Hasselbeck insisted the N-word should not be used at all because "it perpetuates stereotypes and hate," while Goldberg fired back saying "We use it the way we want to use it."
"Sometimes I think it's almost worse to use it privately than publicly," argued Hasselbeck, who is white, in connection with Jackson's use of the word without realizing he was being recorded.
"View" co-host Sherri Shepherd got involved in the talk claiming she can use it as a term of "endearment," but admitted she doesn't want to hear it coming out of Hasselbeck's mouth.
"This is upsetting to me," Hasselbeck replied. "When we live in a world where pop culture that uses that term, and we're trying to get to a place where we feel like we're in the same place, where we feel like we're in the same world, how are we supposed to then move forward if we keep using terms that bring back that pain?"
By the end of the exchange of lines between Goldberg and Hasselbeck, the latter had already broke down in tears, begging Goldberg to explain why such a vile word should still be used - and only used by Africa Americans.
