Healthier than he's ever been, Eddie Van Halen is ready and eager to spend the rest of his days with his girlfriend/manager Janie Liszewski whom he proposed to back in August, People magazine reported.
The couple was vacationing in Hawaii when the 53-year-old U.S. rock 'n' roll icon got down on his knee and popped the question to Liszewski, 38.
"They are happy, healthy, very much in love and looking forward to living life together forever," the source told the mag. "They are devoted to each other and to experiencing life in a whole new, positive and passionate way."
The musician told People magazine back in May that he fell in love with Liszewski the minute they met while she interviewed to be the band's manager in 2006. "A lot of people at the table were upset because I asked her out in the middle of a meeting." The couple stayed together and exchanged promise rings at Christmas last year." Speaking of their marriage plans at the time, the two said, "We'll do it when the time feels right."
The marriage will be the guitarist's second one, he was previously married to actress Valerie Bertinelli. The two tied the knot in 1981 and remained together for 24 years before getting divorced. They have a 17-year-old son Wolfgang, who joined his father on tour this year. In an interview on Howard Stern's radio show on September 8, 2006, Eddie stated that he and Valerie share custody of their son, and that he sees him every day. Van Halen's divorce became final on December 20, 2007, two years after Valerie filed the legal papers.
The first Van Halen tour in 22 years with David Lee Roth behind the mic kicked off in the fall last year but the band was forced to postpone several concerts while guitarist Eddie Van Halen, who survived tongue cancer in the past, underwent treatment for an undisclosed medical condition. At the time, Van Halen's ex-wife denied rumors of a relapse or a recurrence of cancer, saying simply, "He's being proactive about his illness."
