Ed McMahon Is Currently in Intensive Care

Ed McMahon, the longtime helper of Johnny Carson on the popular “The Tonight Show,” has been hospitalized for approximately a month with pneumonia and other complications, a spokesman announced on Friday.

According to Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman, Ed McMahon, who is due to celebrate his 86th birthday next week, is currently in the intensive care unit of a hospital whose name was not disclosed.

The publicist told Reuters that Ed McMahon’s condition was very “serious,” as the comedian suffered of several health problems. In spite of the fact that he admitted that Ed McMahon had been diagnosed with pneumonia, he refused to comment on whether online reports by television program “Entertainment Tonight” were true or not with regard to the fact that the personality had also been diagnosed with bone cancer.

Ed McMahon’s medical problems come after a rather difficult year for the comedian, who gained popularity with his nightly “Heeeeeeere’s Johnny!” introduction of the TV personality for almost three decades and for serving as a host for the talent show “Star Search.”

Ed McMahon hit headlines last summer when he failed to pay a $4.8 million mortgage on his six-bedroom Beverly Hills residence. However, he subsequently found a purchaser for the house so as to avoid foreclosure.

The comedian pointed the finger at having broken his neck in order to explain his financial woes, as the accident, which occurred about 18 months earlier, impeded him from working and thus earning money. In addition, he sued Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for failing to diagnose the neck fracture after he suffered the fall and of botching a couple of subsequent spine operations.

Nevertheless, Ed McMahon was later sued as well for failing to pay an attorney he had hired for his daughter in an unrelated matter.
