Brussels - The Czech presidency of the European Union said Wednesday it had invited officials from the Palestinian Authority, Egypt and Jordan to Brussels for a fresh round of talks on the Middle East.

The meeting, the third of its kind since the Gaza conflict broke out at the beginning of the year, is to take place on Sunday, March 15, officials said.

"The objective of the dinner meeting is particularly the discussion of the current situation in Palestine and the role of Egypt in mediating the Middle East negotiations," a presidency statement said.

The EU is to be represented by Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg and the bloc's foreign policy chief, Javier Solana.

EU officials held two rounds of separate talks in January with then Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and with officials from Egypt, Jordan, Turkey and the Palestinian Authority.
