EA, Paramount Reveal First Details On The Godfather II

This week we got the first details of the upcoming The Godfather II video game, after an official announcement by EA and Paramount re-confirmed something we already knew: the sequel of the 2007 hit Godfather in on the way.

The Godfather II sets players in the middle of the 1960's organized crime, in several locations: Florida, Cuba, New York. The story evolves around Michael Corleone, who became the Don of New York, but goes beyond the film's story, its producers said.

The sequel comes with an innovative feature, “The Don's View,” a strategy meta-game that allows players to oversee the entire world as they grow the family business. The developers explained that through Don's View, players will be able to build, defend and expand their crime rings, while at the same time keeping an eye on rival families.

“In the 1960's, a mafia Don was only as strong as his family," said Hunter Smith, Executive Producer of The Godfather II. “ The Don's View is so unique, it could fundamentally change the rules of open-world games by blending action and strategy to create something entirely new."

The Godfather II expands on the mechanics of the first game, and doubles down on the series' signature BlackHand control scheme, its creators explained, adding that the game will add even more features in terms of combo system, pressure tactics and executions.

The producers promise something unlike any other open-world games, with intriguing action and strategy that will keep gamers hooked.

The Godfather II will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in February 2009. The game hasn't been rated yet by the ESRB and PEGI. The first trailer will debut August 15, and starting August 18, it will become available on http://godfather2.ea.com.
