EA Comes Out With Its Own Fitness Game

Looking to cash in on the popularity of Wii Fit’s innovative features, Electronic Arts announced that its is currently developing a new game called EA Sports Active, which will help and entertain its users in a similar way to the Wii Fit game.

"EA Sports Active and our entrance into the fitness space is an exciting and groundbreaking milestone for EA Sports," EA Sports president Peter Moore said. "As we continue to expand our brand, we have a real opportunity to redefine the home fitness experience with a more Western cardiovascular approach and exercises that will appeal to a diverse audience, getting people off the couch and into shape while interacting with our products in a way never before possible," he added.

The initial release will mainly target the female audience but there will also be other games released, in order to cover a wider user base. The game will include leg straps for better tracking of the player’s movement and also a resistance band for upper body training.

The game is being developed under the supervision of fitness expert Bob Greene, who will make sure that the exercises will provide a complete workout. There will also be included a 30 Day Challenge mode, meant to help players reach their weight loss goals.

There have been several releases attempted by companies looking to break into this market’s segment, but none of them managed to record a significant impact. EA’s product appears to have the potential to challenge Wii’s position but we’ll just have to wait until next year to see the public’s response.
