In a brief press statement, the gaming giant Electronic Arts
announced that it has acquired ThreeSF and its social network for gamers,
Rupture.
Basically Rupture is an online “hall of game” for the gamers
who wish to share with the world their outstanding achievements in different
games.
According to the website, Rupture builds a profile of a
player based on the game he plays. The information is pulled directly from the
video game.
For the moment, Rupture supports games such as Halo3, World
Of Warcraft, Madden08 and GuitarHero III.
Electronic Arts didn’t reveal the financial terms of the
deal, but the Los
Angeles Time said that the gaming company had paid roughly $30 million for
ThreeSF and Ruptures.
Also, EA hasn’t released any details about its future plans
for Rupture, saying only that its plans will be
available in the weeks ahead.
Rupture was created by Shawn Fanning, the founder of Napster
and Jonathan Baudanza and it was intended to be “game agnostic”
In April, imeem bought SNOCAP, Fanninng’s effort to enter
into the legal music download market after Napster was closed.
