After eleven years in making, Duke Nukem Forever could hit
the store shelves this year. Or at least we thought so for a little while after
an article published by the Dallas Business Journal.
The gaming community was taken by surprise after Stephen C.
Webster from the DBJ wrote that according to an e-mail from 3D Realms President
Scott Miller, Duke Nukem Forever, the sequel of the famous Duke Nukem 3D, will
arrive on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in late 2008.
"We can't make an official announcement. Frankly, we
may miss the mark by a month or two, but I feel very confident that we're on
target this time. Its definitely an internal push," he wrote.
Last year in December, 3D Realms has unveiled a new trailer
for “the most highly anticipated games in video game history”
However, it seems like the Dallas Business Journal has upset
3D Realms as the information disclosed in the e-mail was no intended for the
public.
In a post on the company’s website, George Broussard, the
president of 3D Realms and one of the creators of Duke Nukem, explained the
situation.
“I'd like to address the article the Dallas Business Journal
put up today. In what appears to be an unfortunate turn of events, there seems
to have been some confusion between what was 'off the record' and what was not.
I suppose we're used to dealing with gaming press and not mainstream press.
Lesson learned,” he wrote.
As about the release date, Broussard said that is still “when
it’s done”. “Platforms have not been finalized or announced. You can rest
assured that we are moving toward a goal and that the recently released teaser
trailer is the start of that process and seeing more of the game, sooner than
later,” he added. As you can see, the wait it’s not over.
On the other hand, Scott Miller confirmed the existence of a
downloadable Xbox Live Arcade version of Duke Nukem 3D, which will feature
on-line multiplayer support, Xbox Live achievements, on-line score boards, and
a co-op mode.
