After many years of denying rumors about his sex addiction,
David Duchovny, one of the hottest men in Hollywood, had to admit he is
actually obsessed about sex and seeking treatment.
“I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of
sex addiction,” the actor says in an exclusive statement for People magazine,
requesting respect and privacy for his wife and children as they are all trying
to deal with the situation as a family.
Before marrying actress Tea Leoni in 1997, Duchovny had been
linked to several women and had to
fend off rumors of sexual addiction.
“If you're single and in the public eye and you have a few
dates, you're a sex addict,” he told Cosmopolitan in 1997.
His wife Tea also defended him in 1998, telling Elle
magazine: “David was accused of being a sex addict. Which I always found very
exciting. And then I found out it wasn't true.”
Later in the same year, in an interview with Playboy,
Duchovny revealed his passion for hotel pornography and 1980s porn stars…
However, this year, the actor told Best Life magazine about
his beautiful relationship with his wife, and about the way he changed since he
met her. He admitted that before her, “the longest my
intense sexual interest would last would be maybe two years.”
But he said he was grateful that he
did not run away, as most men do, when the sexual intensity began to fade, and
that’s how he discovered something much better than just sex.
Sex addiction is a form of behavior
that is usually likened to alcoholism, drug addiction or gambling, although it
has never been officially recognized as a “diagnosable disorder” by the
American Psychiatric Association.
According to The Washinton Post, sexual health experts
estimate that about 3-5 percent of Americans have the disorder, including
women.
The ironical thing is that Duchovny started seeking
treatment for the addiction just after he won a Golden Globe award for playing
the role of womanizer Hank Moody in the series “Californication.” The second
season of the series will start airing on U.S. television on September 29.
