DreamWorks Animation made official its plans to prouce a "Kung Fu Panda" sequel and release it in 2011.
As part of DreamWorks Animation’s new policy of producing all the movies in 3-D starting next year, the sequel of “Kung Fu Panda” will also be made using stereoscopic 3-D technology. Jack Black will still be the voice of the chubby panda bear who becomes the best kung fu fighter in China, while Angelina Jolie will remain the voice of Kung Fu apprentice Tigress. The voices will be managed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, head of story on "Kung Fu Panda."
In a statement, DreamWorks Animation said the launch date for the “Kung Fu Panda” sequel was set for June 3, 2011.
The company plans to release “Kung Fu Panda 2” in Imax theaters worldwide.
The Paramount-distributed animation film has gathered more than $626 million worldwide and became DreamWorks Animation's most financially successful non-sequel film to date. The sequel will also be released by Paramount.
The focus of the “Kung Fu Panda” sequel will be on big kung fu fan Po and his journey as the chosen one all kung fu masters were expecting to fulfill an ancient prophecy.
The producing team will be mostly the same. The Producer will be Melissa Cobb, while Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, writers and co-producers of the movie, will continue their collaboration on the “Kung Fu Panda” project.
“Kung Fu Panda 2” will also be released on DVD and Blu-ray on November 9.
