A college student faces charges assaulting a police officer. Nothing spectacular so far, but the “weapon” he used to assault the officer must be a first. The Drake University student threw candy at the Des Moines police officer, The Associated Press reported.
The 20-year-old student identified as Sean McGuire threw some M&Ms at the police officer (Theodore Lister Stroope) who was questioning his friend for a hit and run incident. Police arrested the student on Sunday at the entrance of a convenience store. The incident and the arrest that followed happened at about 2:30 a.m. at Kum & Go, 3104 University Ave, the police report said.
Drake University security guards saw the candies falling around the police officer and hitting him in the shoulder as he turned, according to the police report.
When asked why he threw the M&M’s at the police officer, McGuire said he did it to “stick up for his friend”, the man suspected in the hit and run accident involving an intoxicated man.
Officer Stroope took the Drake student to the Polk County Jail. The teen reportedly got back at the officer by peeing all over the back seat of the squad car, the police report said.
However, the Glenview, Illinois student was released from prison on Sunday after paying a $1,000 bond.
