The son of Hip Hop legend Dr. Dre, Andre Jr., was found dead over the weekend in circumstances yet unknown. The family is currently waiting for the results of his autopsy. He was 20 years old.
The body Andre Young Jr. was found at his Woodland Hills home on Saturday morning, August 23, MTV reported. His mother allegedly found him unresponsive in bed when she checked on him at 10 AM, and immediately called emergency services. After failed attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of death is yet to be determined with pending results of a toxicology report. An autopsy was conducted Monday. No foul play is expected. Officials are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.
A representative for the Los Angeles County Coroner's office told MTV News that The an Andre Romelle Young Jr. passed away Saturday, but was uncertain if he was Dre's son; Dre's rep confirmed that information Tuesday (August 26).
"Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son," his rep Lori Earl told People.com in a statement. "Please respect his family's grief and privacy at this time."
Details surrounding the incident are scarce, but it is known that Young "had been out with friends" the previous night and returned home around 5:30 a.m., according to L.A. County Coroner's assistant chief Ed Winter.
In most cases when a 20-year-old dies suddenly, there are some kind of substances involved. The fact that he was out until 5:30 in the morning also points in that direction.
Considered one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time, working with such artists as Eminem, 50 Cent, The Game, and Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre is the founder and current CEO of Aftermath Records and a former co-owner of Death Row Records. He performed and found fame with the gangsta rap group NWA, that included members Ice-Cube, Eazy-E and MC Ren.
Dr. Dre, who is the father of four other children from various relationships, is currently working on his final album, "Detox."
Our condolences and thoughts to Dr. Dre and his family during this difficult time.
