The precise cause of Kanye West’s mother’s death could not be determined although there was no sign of "surgical or anesthetic misadventure," according to a coroner's report released Thursday.
The results of the autopsy performed on Donda West’s body failed to determine the exact role the "multiple post-operative factors" following plastic surgery, played in her death, People.com reported.
"The final manner of death could not be determined," the coroner said in a statement. "Multiple post-operative factors could have played a role in the death. The exact contribution of each factor could not be determined. There was no evidence of a surgical or anesthetic misadventure."
The coroner's office attributed the death of the 58-year-old former university professor to coronary artery disease.
West, who retired from her post as professor and chair of the English Department at Chicago State University in 2004 to become her son's manager, passed away on Nov. 10, at Centinela Freeman hospital, one day after an extensive nip-tuck procedure performed by Dr. Jan Adams. In a statement released immediately after her death, a family spokesperson said the she died, "as the result of complications from a cosmetic surgical procedure."
West, who was reportedly in pain and breathing heavily at the end of her first post-operative day at home, "was left unattended and found unresponsive on the bed." The coroner also determined that the breathing difficulties "may have triggered the cardiac event" that led to her death.
Little after West’s death, Adams revealed in an interview that he knows "exactly what happened to her," but he would not comment on it until a final report would be released. According to him, "When she left [my] office, there was no problem whatsoever."
The report also mentions that "even though she was advised that she receive post-operative care at another facility," West returned to her home in Los Angeles after the operation.
In the meantime, the state medical board is investigating whether Adams' license should be revoked or suspended after two alcohol-related arrests in the past four years.
