Don LaFontaine, the artist whose prolific voice has been heard in hundreds o commercials, passed away on Monday. The artist died from complications stemming from a collapsed lung at the age of 68.
The man also known as the "King of the Movie Trailers", collaborated with movie producers on as much as 5000 film trailers, TV and radio shows. LaFontaine died this afternoon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center according to a report from Entertainment Tonight which cited the artist’s agent, Vanessa Gilbert.
Although most media sources reported that LaFontaine died from complications from a lung collapse, the official cause of the death wasn’t released yet.
LaFontaine also was the announcer for a number of TV shows and channels such as Entertainment Tonight and The Insider, CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, UPN, TNT, TBS and the Cartoon Network.
“By conservative estimates, he has voiced hundreds of thousands of television and radio spots, including commercials for Chevrolet, Pontiac, Ford, Budweiser, McDonalds, Coke, and many other corporate sponsors,” according to information on his Web site.
Don LaFontaine also voiced over 350,000 commercials among which those for big names such as Chevrolet, Pontiac, Ford, Budweiser, McDonalds, Coke and many others.
The voice artist is survived by his wife Nita Whitaker, and their three children.
