Beijing - Veteran US promoter Don King on Sunday announced a first heavyweight title bout in China next month between Andrew Golota and Ray Austin.
Golota and Austin will fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight title in the south-western city of Chengdu on November 7, King said in a press release.
The undercard in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, will include a heavyweight eliminator, strawweight, lightweight and a women's middleweight championship bout, the statement said.
King has organized the event under the slogan "We are together," taken from the rallying cry for people to respond to the devastating earthquake that killed at least 80,000 people in Sichuan in May.
"We are all truly together in bringing this international event to China," King said in the statement.
"The Chinese people proved their resilience by presenting China's first Olympic Games in tremendous fashion and we will present a professional prizefighting success in Chengdu on November 7," he said.
The event will follow the WBC's 46th world convention, which begins in Chengdu on November 2.
Golota, 40, is a Polish-born US citizen who boasts a record of 41-6-1, with 33 knockouts.
He lost four previous heavyweight world-championship bouts.
His US opponent, Ray "The Rainman" Austin, has a record of 24-4-4, with 16 knockouts.
The WBC heavyweight eliminator will feature US boxers Jameel "Big Time" McCline (38-9-1, 23 KOs) and "Merciless" Mike Mollo (19-2, 12 KOs), King said.
King has been a regular visitor to China in recent years and tried to arrange a heavyweight title bout in Beijing in 2001.
