Don Imus, Sharpton, Pacman Jones, Excuses and Race

The fact that Don Imus was apparently misunderstood when trying to make people aware of the unfair treatment of blacks doesn't change the fact that he is apparently senile in trying to approach the race issue again considering his 2007 precedent. Imus proved that he is unable to handle the sensitive issue of race once, and should have been for all.

The actual dialogue between Imus and sports announcer Warner Wolf was that they were contemplating the high number of Pacman's run-ins with the law. Imus asked Wolf what color Adam Jones is, to which the announcer answered that the cornerback is African-American.

"There you go. Now we know," Imus replied, which he says was a means to point out that blacks are often arrested for no reason. Imus' black co-host, Karith Foster, also backed her boss and said people criticizing Imus did not hear the whole conversation and do not know Imus and what his show is about.

Al Sharpton got expectedly involved, an individual who has many resemblances to Imus. Most comments to online newspaper articles point out that he is indeed another media clown just like Imus is. In fact, the Catholic League compared Sharpton to Don Imus in 2007, and said that his remarks "should finish his career," after Sharpton displayed remarkable bigotry towards presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his religion, Mormonism. Of course, Sharpton, 53, is much younger and has fewer excuses for his rants.

Overall, a man like Sharpton who was in the past under fire for anti-Jewish, racist, bigoted and homophobic remarks, should keep his mouth shut about fellow offenders like Don Imus. However, Sharpton often pointed out that creating controversy is part of his job as an activist.

Also, Pacman Jones said he was upset by Imus' words and would pray for the man, who he thinks has problems with African Americans. His reaction was apparently the only normal reaction of all those involved.

Meanwhile, Imus tried to paint a picture of Jones in Tuesday's apology which doesn't quite fit. Imus alleged that he was picked on by the authorities because he is black. In fact, Jones has obvious violence issues which will keep him in trouble for the foreseeable future if he doesn't make real efforts to control himself.
