Dolly Parton is not amused with the way Howard Stern’s
satellite radio show has made use of her audio books, attributing apparently racist
and obscene remarks to her.
The country star released a statement Wednesday, striving to
clarify matters and clear her name.
“I have never been so shocked, hurt and humiliated in all my
life,” the 62-year-old Parton said, explaining that she would have never in “a
blue million years” have said such vulgar things.
“They have done editing or some sort of trickery to make
this horrible, horrible thing. Please accept my apology for them and certainly
know I had nothing to do with this,” she continued.
That was not all, as Parton further expressed her strong
feelings on the matter by concluding she is “completely devastated” by the radio
show’s pun.
Then again, Howard Stern, who proudly hosts the show, is
well known as a shock jock who does not hesitate when it comes to making humiliating,
over-the-top, distasteful, disgusting, yes, shocking comments.
The show has utilized fragments from audio books before,
with “Star Trek” actor George Takei a favorite victim in recent years.
The Howard Stern Show air four days a week on Howard 100,
part of the Sirius satellite radio chain.
Parton’s statement is also posted on her official website,
under the title “Stern with Stern.”
While this little event may have proved a nuisance for the
veteran singer, she has plenty of good things to look forward to. The tour in
support of her latest album, “Backwoods Barbie,” was successfully rescheduled
and the European tour, which kicks off June 13 in Sweden, is just around the corner.
