Los Angeles - Soul music legend Isaac Hayes died from a stroke while exercising on his treadmill, according to a doctor's report quoted Tuesday by police in Memphis, Tennessee.
No post mortem examination was conducted on Hayes, but in paperwork filed by Hayes' family physician, Dr David Kraus, the cause of death is listed as a stroke, Memphis police spokesman Steve Shular said.
Kraus told investigators that he had been treating Hayes, 65, for high blood pressure, Shular said.
Hayes died on Monday at his home near Memphis, where family members found Hayes lifeless on the floor next to a still-running treadmill.
Hayes was most famous for his Oscar- and Grammy-winning Theme From Shaft. He recently finished work on the upcoming film Soul Man, in which he starred with comedian Bernie Mac, who passed away Saturday.
