The Board of Medicine has revoked the license of a doctor accused of medical malpractice in a July 2006 incident.
Pierre Jean-Jacque Renelique was accused of medical malpractice, delegating responsibility to unlicensed personnel, and failing to keep an accurate medical record.
According to the Department of Health, the abortion practitioner was scheduled to perform an abortion on a teenager who was 23 weeks pregnant. The patient had received drugs before the procedure to dilate her cervix.
It appears that the woman gave birth at a Hialeah clinic after waiting hours for Renelique to arrive. A clinic owner put the baby into a bag and throw it away, the complaint said.
The 18-year-old patient paid $1,200 for the abortion.
The baby’s body was found a week after the incident. The autopsy determined the baby had air into his lungs, which led to the conclusion that he had been born alive.
“We are very grateful to the Florida Medical Board for stripping Renelique of his medical license. His incompetence led to the brutal death of an innocent baby born alive, and we are grateful that he will not be afforded the opportunity of hurting anyone else,” Operation Rescue Troy Newman was quoted as saying.
No criminal charges have been filed in the case, but a decision on criminal charges is expected soon.
It is not the first time when the owner of the abortion center had problems with the law. Last year, one of his abortion centers was closed after three employees were found to be unlicensed.
