The famous Fox Mulder and Dana Scully duo turn the X-files
upside down once again. They are back on the big screen starting July 25, some
six years after the ending of the TV series.
“The X-Files: I Want To Believe” is set in a very odd
location: the Museum
of Jurassic Technology,
an obscure edifice, where the abnormal, implausible and devious are portrayed
with genuineness and worship.
Among the paranormal events which are already traditional
for the X-files, the movie reveals the strong connection between FBI special
agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), which is
taken by director Chris Carter in unforeseen directions. The two partners seem
to enjoy not only mystical happenings in what concerns their professional
lives, but also a magical bond that lightens up their personal relationship.
However, Gillian Anderson was quite shocked at first and did
not feel as comfortable as she used to with impersonating the character that
has made her famous. According to the New York Daily News, the 39-year-old
actress confessed that she initially found it rather thorny to play Agent
Scully, since it was “unexpected and a bit freakish.” Nonetheless, it was
playing a scene opposite Duchovny’s Mulder which rescued her from the
awkwardness and re-established the natural union between both the characters
and actors. “It was definitely the moment that [we] got into the same room
together that it felt familiar again,” Gillian Anderson said.
On the other hand, David Duchovny felt relaxed and
untroubled returning to his old persona. “I missed the heroic quality of
[Mulder] – he’s got a hell of a lot of integrity and he’s a dreamer,"
Duchovny confessed, as quoted by the Daily News.
“The X-Files” hit the screens in 1993 and rapidly gained an
out-of-the-ordinary-devoted audience. More and more fans were attracted to the
creepy series portraying constant happenings related to alien visits on Earth
and witty detached stories that dealt either with exterminating bugs or grotesque
humans who appeared as a result of several generations of inbreeding.
If you want to believe, drive your UFO to the nearest
theatre on Friday, so you can scan through the X-files, catch a scare or two
and unveil the romance behind the paranormal.
