Dixie Chick Martie Maguire is expecting her third daughter and says she and her husband are “very excited” of their growing brood.
The singer revealed the happy news to People Magazine on Sunday, while on the red carpet for the Nobelity Artists & Filmmakers Dinner in Austin to benefit the Nobelity Project.
“I'm very excited,” Maguire, 38, said, adding, “We know what it is – it's a girl.”
The singer and husband Gareth Maguire, an actor, are already parents to twin daughters Eva Ruth and Kathleen Emilie, who were born in April 2004. “I'm feeling good now, although I wasn't!” Maguire said. “Carrying one instead of two will be much easier.”
By Monday, the happy mom had announced the pregnancy on the group’s website, specifying that the baby is due in late summer. Maguire wrote on the site that Eva and Katie are “very excited to have a new baby sister” and that three daughters is a “magic number!”
As to the growing brood between herself and the other two Dixies, Natalie Maines and Emily Robison, Maguire told people: “We’'ll have to move over and let the little chicks take over!”
Robinson already has three young children, while Maines has two sons.
The three musicians formed the Dixie Chicks in 1989 in Dallas, Texas and stand out as the highest-selling female band in any musical genre. The country trio sparked intense controversy in 2003, when Maines made a disparaging comment regarding President Bush and the Iraq war.
“Not Ready to Make Nice,” released in 2006, addressed the long-standing controversy and was well received by critics, earning three major awards at the 2007 Grammys: Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
