Former New Kids on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg and his wife of over nine years, singer Kim Fey, both filed divorce papers on August 13.
Citing irreconcilable differences, the estranged couple, who have been separated since January, each filed for divorce separately three hours apart, one in Los Angeles and the other one in Ventura County. The 39-year-old singer, who is the older brother of actor Mark Wahlberg, and Fey have two children together, Xavier, 15, and Elijah, 6.
While details on Walhberg's requests are yet unclear, Fey is seeking sole custody of their children with visitation rights for Wahlberg as well as spousal support and attorney's fees paid.
A rep for couple was quoted by People magazine as saying the two have been estranged for some time but remain close friends.
Fey and Wahlberg first met when she did session work for Donnie's brother's group, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. They tied the knot back in August 1999.
For the first time in 15 years, Wahlberg and his band, New Kids on the Block, including Jordan Knight, Danny Wood, Jon Knight and Joey Mcintyre, and are set to release a new album titled "The Block," on September 2. the band recorded a song last week with fellow 80's boyband supergroup, New Edition, minus the most infamous member - the former Mr. Whitney Houston, Bobby Brown.
Aside from his musical career, Wahlberg has also appeared in several movies, including "The Sixth Sense" and most recently, "Righteous Kill," set to hit theaters in September.
In the meantime, Walhberg's younger brother Mark is set to marry his longtime girlfriend and mother of his children, after she gives birth to the couple's third child in September.
