Google has created an extremely detailed Google Earth 3D map of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. The program allows, among others, for visitors to recreate their journey in the dream world by attaching videos, pictures and comments.
The accurate 3D map, which includes details such as park benches, souvenir shacks and merry-go-round horses, was allegedly compiled from more than 100,000 photos by eight photographers, Disney said.
The effort, which according to the entertainment company is the largest corporate initiative ever undertaken on Google Earth, was made because Disney knows that almost 90 percent of visitors to Disney World plan their vacation online.
The eight photographers worked around the clock for ten days to take the pictures, which yielded around 1,500 3D models of different structures. The 3D map also features 276 icons embedded in the map at attractions and hotels, as well as 216 Disney World pictures, renderings and descriptions that were provided by other people and companies.
Disney also offers another interesting feature, Twisney.com, which allows visitors to e-mail or Twitter from their mobile devices what they're doing at that moment in the Disney World. This means that unexpected changes such as the closing down of a ride can be found out about on the user-generated site.
