Disney Previews Its New 3D Animated Movies

Walt Disney said that Disney and Pixar will produce eight new 3D animated films in the next four years.

The studio also presented its next 12 animated films that will be in cinemas all over the world before 2012. Excepting WALL*E and the hand-drawn Princess and the Frog, all the movies will be in digital 3D, the studio announced. All the 3D films will also be available in a 2D format.

"We're excited to be pushing the boundaries of 3D and computer technology to tell our stories in the best possible way," said John Lasseter, chief creative officer for Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios.

Disney’s next movies will include the new 3D-converted versions of Toy Story and Toy Story 2. The movies which had a great deal of success are expected to be released in 2009 and 2010. Toy Story 3 will also hit cinemas in 2010 with Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack doing the voices.

"We couldn't be more proud and excited about our upcoming line-up of feature projects,” said Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios.

"With so many great films literally on the drawing boards and computer screens, we felt that now was the perfect time to give moviegoers all over the world an update on the state of our art... this is as exciting a time as any in our history," he added.

Viewers are required to wear glasses in order to watch the 3D movies, but the left-and right eye images thinly calibrated so the headaches or eyestrains will be out of the picture.

The firs 3D animated movie to be released by Pixar in May 2009 is Up, which tells the story of a elderly widower who embarks on a South American adventure. Pixar, which was recently purchased and rejuvenated by Disney, will also launch Newt (a love story involving the last two blue-footed newts alive) The Bear and the Bow, and Cars 2 in the summer of 2012.

Here’s a list of Disney’s 12 next films:

  2. Bolt - November 2008
  3. Up - May 2009
  4. The Princess and the Frog - Christmas 2009
