Walt Disney World will make changes regarding the safety to
a roller coaster in the Animal Kingdom after an employer was killed last year
by one of the ride’s car.
According to Disney spokeswoman Kim Prunty, the entry and
exit areas of Primeval Whirl will be changed, with sensor mats which will be
installed in the restricted area that will stop the ride once they are stepped
on.
Also the ride platform will be extended and bold stripes
will be placed in the load and unload zones.
On November 24 ride attendant Karen Price, 63, got hit by a
car from the ride in the loading area of the Primeval Whirl after she fell from
a platform. A few days later she died.
Her death is still investigated by the U.S. Occupational
Safety and Health Administration.
Prunty said that the safety work will take a few weeks as it
will be done after hours.
According to her, since it was opened in 2002 there wasn’t
any rider seriously wounded on the Primeval Whirl.
Still, the park still faces a lawsuit from a man who said
got injured in 2005 at his knee when he got off the ride.
Primeval Whirl is a ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom at the
Walt Disney World Resort. Is spinning roller coaster and is part of Chester
and Hester's Dino-Rama, which at its time is part of Dinoland USA.
It fits in the category of “Mild but Wild Thrills” of the roller
coaster. Primeval Whirl has cars that spin in circles while on tracks and has
seat for 4 riders.
