Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and the rest of the gang rewarded their fans' patience with a brand-new "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" trailer which premiered today on Disney.com.
"We're paying homage to the fans by debuting our first look on the very network that launched the franchise," Disney said in a statement announcing the trailer.
The 2-minute clip gives fans a taste on what Hudgens' character Gabriella and Efron's Troy have been doing since spending their summer together working at the country club.
Disney's third installment of HSM franchise follows Troy, Gabriella and the rest of the Wildcats through their senior year while getting ready for life after graduation, but the real teaser is whether Troy and Gabriella split up, as the trailer hints.
"I'm a lot better at saying goodbye than you," Gabriella says.
"Why are you saying goodbye?" Troy replies while she plays with his hair.
"We wanted it to end at East High," Efron was quoted by People.com as saying. "There are a lot of questions, everyone wants to know where we leave our futures, and this is a great way to leave the story."
The video features all of the franchise's classic moments: flashy musical numbers, basketball court dance sequences, and a romantic duet between the two high school sweethearts.
Slated for an October 24 release on the big screen, the flick began production in spring 2008 with a screenplay by High School Musical alum, Peter Barsocchini. Featuring 10 new songs, its soundtrack will be in stores on Oct. 21.
The first High School Musical took the US by storm when it appeared on the Disney channel in January 2006. It went on to become a worldwide hit. The second TV movie shattered cable TV records last summer with a premiere watched by 18.6 million in the US.
