Kids that are playing Disney games on the Nintendo DS console will be able to take part in an avatar-based community created especially for them. DGamer will allow its members to chat to one another and create avatars with the clothing of the characters of the games they are playing.

The software will be free and will be added to all Disney games for the DS. The first game that will enjoy this feature will be ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian,’ that will be released together with the movie having the same name.

DGamer does not have all the bells and whistles the other Disney virtual worlds as Club Penguin or Fairies, but there is a good chance the user experience will be enhanced in the future. Even as it is now, DGamer has all the chances of boosting Disney’s sales for the Nintendo DS console games.

As mentioned above, users can customize their avatars by choosing pieces of clothing of their favorite characters. The members’ gaming merits, displayed for each user, will be measured based on a system that puts together the points from all games played, thus driving the kids to buy and play as many titles as possible.

Of course, being a service mostly for children, parental control mechanisms are not missing. There are three levels for controlling chat: the safest is the one that allows users to talk by sending predefined phrases, the next safest allows users to talk freely but under automatic supervision so that no bad language is used and the last one makes no restriction on the used words.

Disney has rather recently seen the possibilities an online community offers and acquired Club Penguin last year. The deal has caused a raise in the price of the company’s shares, and Disney hopes that DGamer will cause similar results.
