Celine Dion and Tiger Woods have shown great lack of concern over the situation in which Treasure Coast residents find themselves. Even though the region confronts with lingering draught and its residents' use of water is limited, the two mansions that the Canadian singer and the golf star own consume more water than anyone can imagine.
Celine Dion, whose company, Renlec Management, own a 5.7 acres property in Jupiter, Florida, has used no less than 6.5 million gallons of water in the 12-month period that ended in March. This accounts for about 545,000 gallons of water per month, more than 54 times a normal consumer would use. The thing that could be responsible for this is the fact that the singer is building a new 9,800 square-foot, mansion on the property.
The second biggest water consumer in the US is Tiger Woods, whose new landscaping project, including the plantations of some large native trees, account for the usage of more than 300,000 gallons of water each month.
Other water guzzlers from past years have drastically reduced their figures. The champion for this year’s cuts in water usage seems to be Mike Kittredge, founder of Yankee Candle Co., who dropped from 653,000 gallons of water per month last year to about 150,000 gallons. Mr. Kittredge is determined to continue doing this. He stated that he also planned to change the surface of the tennis court he owns with one that would need much less watering.
Because of the draught, Treasure Coast residents are permitted to water their lawns only two times a week, but there are exceptions to this rule. Officials are also considering passing permanent limitations to lawn-watering.
