Dina Matos McGreevey, wife of ex-governor James McGreevey, stated after taking the stand Wednesday in their divorce trial that she had completely submitted to aiding her husband’s political career as soon as they got engaged. She also said that she had emptied her savings account in order to pay for their $30,000 wedding and that she had accepted to invite another 40 of her husband’s political allies just to please him with this occasion.

The McGreevey had their wedding in 2000, but they got separated in 2004 after James McGreevey publicly announced that he was gay and that he will resign as governor of New Jersey.

Dina Matos McGreevey wants compensation for her husband’s lost perks because of the fact that he resigned 13 month before he had access to them. In addition to this, she also wanted to be given the money that would allow her to continue having the same lifestyle as before. Her accountant stated that the amount of money the former couple spent every month was approximately $51,000. However, he said that he derived this sum relying on what he thought it might be, and not on official information. Mr. McGreevey’s accountant thought that the sum was much lower, about $16,000 a month.

Matos McGreevey is a hospital executive and has a reported salary of $55,000 a year. The hearings were part of the process of determining how much money the former governor must pay to his ex-wife for alimony and child support.

The ex-couple agreed on child custody, but no other information about it has been made public.
