Digg's Officials Prepare To Deal With The Economic Crisis

Digg’s CEO, Jay Adelson, released a statement yesterday, announcing that 8 people will be let go from the company’s staff, which represents 10 percent of its work force. Through the selection process the company’s officials made sure that the core business will not be affected by these actions.

"As we've often stated over the past couple of months, given the current economic climate, we've made the decision to take a more conservative approach to our expansion plans and aggressively focus on reaching profitability within the year," said Adelson in the statement.

The plan for 2009 includes the hiring of a new sales team, which will focus on bringing in major clients.

There are certain aspects related to the company that demand a lot of attention such as its advertising structure. According to recent reports, Digg keeps failing to bring in a profit, even though it registers more than 30 million unique visitors each month. According to recent reports, Digg lost $4 million on $6.4 million of revenue in the first three quarters of last year.

Digg was released in December 2004 as a place where people could discover and share any sort of content from the Internet, submitting stories, comments, links and votes. There have been some issues related to the control offred for users over their content and also on the system that decides which articles appear on the Web site’s first page. Aside from these problems, the page is extremely popular and the changes prepared by its officials are expected to make it even better.
