Diddy, Notorious BIG Knew of Plans to Ambush Tupak Shakur

Sean "Diddy" Combs and Christopher “Notorious BIG” Wallace knew in advance that Tupac Shakur was going to be attacked in 1994 at the Quad Recording Studios on New York's 7th Avenue, according to The Los Angeles Times.

The Times obtained some FBI records that show who was involved in the planning of the attack. The Bureau found out from a confidential informant that talent promoter James Sabatino and talent manager James "Jimmy Henchman" Rosemond, planned to lure Shakur into an ambush. Both men are Sean "Diddy" Combs associates.

Sabatino, who is currently in jail over crimes unrelated to this case, was heard by the FBI informant saying that Shakur "had to be dealt with."

In the interviews with the FBI held in July and December 2002, the informant gave details on how the two Combs’ associates planed to lure Shakur to the studio to be ambushed.

Rosemond and Sabatino were angry about Shakur's impertinent behavior and wanted to punish him. They lured the famous rapper to the Quad Studios by offering him $7,000 to provide a vocal track for a rap recording, The LA Times reported.

However, the ambush was supposed to be “a severe beating" according to what journalist Chuck Philips told MTV. Unfortunately things got messy after Tupac pulled out a gun. He was shot five times but survived.

Three men waited Shakur in the lobby of the building. Their orders were to severely beat the insolent rapper and make it look like a robbery by stealing any jewelry they could find on Shakur and his entourage. A man of Shakur’s gang gave them information about the rappers whereabouts on the night of the ambush, the LA paper wrote.

Rosemond, Sabatino and Combs declined to comment on the article.

Two years after the Quad Studios attacks, Tupac Shakur would be killed in Las Vegas and in 1997 came the killing of Christopher “Notorious BIG” Wallace. His death was seen as retaliation for Shakur’s killing. Both deaths remained unresolved and no one has ever been charged.
