Wedding rumours surrounding the hip-hop couple Beyonce and
Jay-Z caused a great fuss in the media, with dozens of reporters, photographers
and TV crews gathering in front of Jay-Z’s penthouse in Tribeca, where the
ceremony was supposed to be held.
There is no official confirmation yet, and
the two singers’ representatives were unavailable for comment, but a friends of
the couple told People:
"It happened earlier this evening. Jay wanted it to be
a really private affair—close friends and family."
The couple apparently followed their intimate ceremony with
a big party where many famous guests were invited. Former members of Destiny’s
Child, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, were present, and friend Gwyneth
Paltrow also showed up, accompanied by her husband, Coldplay singer Chris
Martin.
George Clooney was also photographed in the area, but it was
not yet confirmed whether he attended the party or not.
Most of the guests were dressed in white, including Knowles’
younger sister, Solange.
The couple tricked the media into suspecting a wedding
before, so there were rumours that the whole fuss was actually a hoax. But the
fact that the parents of both Beyonce and Jay-Z were present made everything
more credible. Another reason to suspect that the wedding took place is that both
stars were born on the fourth of the month – Knowles in September and Jay-Z in
December – and Friday was the fourth day of the fourth month, which would have
been a perfect moment for the couple to tie the knot.
During the day on Friday, crates of flowers and silver candelabras
were delivered to the rapper’s house. A white tent soon appeared on the top of
the building as well.
The rumours about a possible wedding started after the
couple, who have been together for six years, took out a wedding license valid
for 60 days, in Scarsdale Village,
New York.
Beyonce Knowles, 26, and Jay-Z, 38, have been a couple since 2002.
They have persevered in being discreet about their relationship. Perhaps they
would not even have made their romance public, had it not been for their
collaborations on Jay-Z’s song “’03 Bonnie & Clyde” and Beyoncé’s solo hit
“Crazy in Love,” in 2003, which sparked rumors that their partnership was not
solely musical.
