Probers are currently investigating whether Gov. Spitzer
used tax dollars for trysts with high-priced hookers reaching a total sum of $80,000.
Sources familiar with the investigation informed that Spitzer
met with prostitutes from the Emperors Club VIP, the international call-girl
ring, at least seven times in the last years.
Apparently, IRS and FBI investigators found at least nine
situations over the past 18 months in which Spitzer made cash transfers linked
to Emperors Club VIP, Daily News reports.
Although the $4,300 Spitzer used to pay for a prostitute
named “Kristen” apparently came from Spitzer’s account, the governor certainly
used taxpayer dollars to fly to and from the destinations where his illicit
rendezvous took place.
It was found that Spitzer booked two rooms for the tryst
with the call-girl named Kristen at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, on the
night before Valentine’s Day. One room was booked for himself, the other for
the prostitute; and he later went to the room where she was waiting for him.
Another issue that is currently investigated is whether he also used state
money for the hotel rooms.
Ironically, it was Spitzer’s own efforts to mask his
payments to the prostitution ring that gave him away.
As banks are required to record cash transfers of $10,000 or
more, Spitzer made several transfers of less than $10,000. He also asked the
bank to remove his name from the transactions after the process. His actions
were considered suspicious, so his own bank branch in Manhattan reported him to
the Internal Revenue Service.
The Emperors Club VIP website claims the prostitution ring
is “the most preferred international social introduction service for those
accustomed to excellence.” The club’s website, www.emperorsclubvip.com, informs
that its girls, whose company values several thousand dollars, are “fashion
models, pageant winners and exquisite students, graduates and women of
successful careers (finance, art, media etc...).”
Following the latest sex scandal that involved Spitzer, many
Internet users have been accessing the Emperors Club VIP website, so that it is
now unavailable, due to high volume of traffic.
