Did Britney Hire a Hit Man to Kill K-Fed?

Amid a custody battle which is getting uglier each day, with secret witnesses to reveal shocking things about Britney’s life and lawyers ditching the case, a series of reports just emerged claiming the singer’s ex-hubby Kevin Federline is reportedly in danger and that both the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI are working together to investigate possible threats on his life.

Although she didn’t make an appearance at Sunday night’s Emmy Awards ceremony to apologize for her disappointing "comeback" performance a week ago at the MTV Video Music Awards, Britney Spears continues to make headlines.

Although it might seem like a far fetched story, Entertainment Tonight seems pretty sure of the allegations made recently in a report which claims FBI and LAPD are investigating legitimate leads on a contract hit on Kevin Federline’s life. The FBI reportedly followed the bureau’s standard operating procedure when someone’s life is threatened and tried to reach out to K-Fed and warn him.

TMZ.com on the other hand, reported the rumors are completely untrue although an investigation into a threat on K-Fed’s life was opened nearly two months ago and closed due to lack of evidence.

In the meantime, lawyer Laura Wasser decided to resign from representing Britney following rumors that Kevin’s side would present a damaging new "secret witness." Wasser threatened to drop Britney before due to her erratic behavior and stubbornness to listen to follow any of her advice.

"I don't want anyone to perceive that we're dumping Britney," Wasser was quoted by People magazine as saying. "In a lot of attorney-client relationships, there comes a time when some fresh blood is necessary."

However, TMZ reported that Britney fetched celebrity attorney Mel Goldsman and Marci Levine to handle her case from now on.

As far as the child custody trial is concerned, the "secret witness" was revealed today in court and he is a former bodyguard of Britney’s named Tony Barretto, who can be seen in April and May pictures of the singer. He was reportedly fired in May because he failed to pick up Britney’s hat.

What Barretto has to say could seriously jeopardize Britney’s chances to win the case. Apparently, he filed a declaration which alleges "nudity, drug use and safety issues post-rehab."

His lawyer Gloria Allred told reporters outside court that although her client was ready to testify under oath, neither the court nor Britney's attorneys chose to cross-examine him. She said his declaration went "unrefuted and unchallenged."

Following’s today’s two-hour close-door hearing, Wasser, who attended her last hearing, strongly denied allegations of drug use by Britney claiming Barretto "isn't a credible witness."

She confirmed that Spears and Federline's current 50-50 custody arrangement for Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, will remain in effect for now.

Also witnessing today’s hearing in a Los Angeles court was a representative from the city’s Department of Child and Family Services.

There has been much talk about the custody feud between Britney and her former husband. His legal team was quite busy throughout August, serving several persons from the pop icon’s entourage with deposition subpoenas.

Britney’s former personal assistant, her current personal assistant, her driver/bodyguard, her former manager as well as an employee from the Promises rehabilitation center in Malibu and others will answer questions about Britney’s parenting skills and lifestyle.

Federline’s lawyer handed a deposition subpoena to a chief administrator at the Promises rehabilitation facility in Malibu in mid-August, seeking the singer’s rehab records. Britney spent several weeks at Promises earlier this year, after the notorious head-shaving incident in front of the paparazzi.

Another shameful episode in Britney’s life would be the alleged ban she got from Los Angeles’ exclusive Chateau Marmont hotel for her bizarre behavior, British tabloid The Sun reported. Also sadly for Britney, her single "Gimme More" isn’t doing so well on the radio since her less than impressive performance at the VMAs.
