‘Tis the season to be creative. Although many designers prefer to play it safe, Diane von Furstenberg is aware of the fact that fashion needs to be fun and has thus conceived a colorful and vibrant collection that entices all the way.
Diana Ross, who was present among numerous celebrities at the DVF show on Sunday, was mesmerized by the designer’s fall 2009 collection of comfy knits and inventive hats revealed during the semi-annual New York fashion week.
The twelve-time Grammy-nominated singer and Academy Award-nominated actress explained in a backstage interview after the runway show, which was held in the tent at Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan, that she “loved the knits” and “absolutely loved the hats.”
Knit coats made of cocoon, sinuous jersey jackets and knit dresses pulled over so-called sweater khakis were finalized by exquisite hats, which drew attention with the gigantic loads of pompoms in outre shade mishmash of dazzling hues and dim neutrals. For example, red, pink and orange offered an incredible view matched with a powerful black.
This year’s fall look highlighted an individual approach compared to 2008’s fall/winter collection which had been inspired by 1940s menswear sweaters and slip dresses.
The DVF collection was spiced up with the help of numerous velvet applications, which appeared in unexpected locations, offering relaxing modishness to the designer’s legendary wrap dress, which helped Diane von Furstenberg become an important name in the fashion industry.
After the models concluded the show, the designer stepped on the runway accompanied by creative director Nathan Jenden and subsequently swayed on one of Diana Ross’ best-known hits, “Upside Down.”
