German actress Diane Kruger will be joining the cast of
Quentin Tarantino's World War II movie "Inglorious Bastards," in the
role of a German actress who helps a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as
"The Bastards" that go around scalping and killing Nazis infiltrate a
movie premiere.
“Inglorious Bastards,” which also stars Brad Pitt (in the
role of the group’s leader), Mike Myers (a British general who joins the
group’s cause) and Eli Roth, is scheduled to begin filming on October 13 in Germany. The
director hopes to present the movie in May at the Cannes Film Festival.
Kruger’s character, Bridget Von Hammersmark, was originally
rumoured to be portrayed by Nastassja Kinski, but Tarantino and she did not
manage to reach a deal during their meeting in Germany.
Diane Kruger, 32, a former fashion model, gained
international recognition with her roles in the movies “Troy,”
an adaptation of Homer’s famous epic, in which she played Helen, “Wicker Park,”
“Joyeux Noel” and “National Treasure,” where she portrayed Doctor Abigail
Chase.
In 2003, she won the Cannes Film Festival Chopard Trophy.
As for her personal life, she married French actor and
director Guillaume Canet, whom she had been dating since 1999, on September 1,
2001. The couple divorced five years later.
Til Schweiger, who played Cynric in “King Arthur” has also
landed a part in “Inglorious Bastards,” as a member of “The Basterds.”
The movie is being co-financed and co-presented by The
Weinstein Company and Universal, having Lawrence Bender as the producer and
Erica Steinberg, Bob Weinstein and Harvey Weinstein as execs.
