“Dear Fans in Columbus,
I haven't let you down before and I won't let you down now.”
This is how 67-year-old singer Neil Diamond profusely
apologized to the audience of his concert held earlier this week in Ohio for having
performed in a raspy voice, due to his recently diagnosed laryngitis.
“Until you hear from me again remember/ you are the sun, I
am the moon/you are the words/ I am the tune/ Forgive me/I love you," the
message posted oh his website continues.
And not only did he ask for the fans’ forgiveness, but he
has also decided to offer them a refund for the tickets, which they can claim
until September 5.
Diamond’s condition will prevent him from performing, as it
had been scheduled, in Green Bay, Wisconsin and St.
Louis, Missouri this
week, the latter concert being now set for September 10 and the former for
September 12.
Neil Diamond made his mark in the pop music business during
the 1960s and 1970s, when many of his songs became worldwide hits. He was
inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984 and received-in the year
2000- the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award. Since his debut in 1966, he
has sold more than 125 million records and although his sales decreased after
1980, he can still pride himself in a numerous and loyal audience.
