Diablo Cody's "Body" To Be Directed by Karyn Kusama

“Girlfight” director Karyn Kusama is attached to helm “Jennifer’s Body,” a comedic thriller written by Diablo Cody, of “Juno” fame.

After writing the critically acclaimed teen pregnancy comedy “Juno,” Diablo Cody is ready for something completely different, say a film about a demonic cheerleader who begins to kill the young men in town who are drooling at the sight of her.

Trade paper Variety reports that Karyn Kusama will direct “Jennifer’s Body” for Fox Atomic. The quirky film will star “Transformers” actress Megan Fox as the cheerleader that is possessed and becomes a serial killer.

Her “plain Jane” best friend finally has to take drastic measures to save the town’s decreasing population and kills the cheerleader.

Variety also notes that Fox Atomic acquired the project in October, when “Juno” was only beginning to gather its now stellar reputation.

Hard C partners Jason Reitman and Dan Dubiecki will produce with Mason Novick.

Reitman previously directed “Juno,” based on Cody’s script, for Fox Searchlight.

Kusama’s directing credits include “Girlfight,” starring Michelle Rodriguez and “Aeon Flux,” starring Charlize Theron. The former film earned Kusama the directing award and the grand jury award at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival.

Shooting for “Jennifer’s Body” begins in early March in Vancouver.

Diablo Cody, whose real name is Brook Busey-Hunt, has dabbled in quite a few activities, including stripping and keeping a blog of the experience, journalism and memoir-writing.

“Juno” seems to have opened a trail of glory for the 29-year-old, as the film has been showered with praise and awards.

Among the top honors it has received, in early December, the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures selected “Juno” star Ellen Page as best breakthrough performance in the female category, while the comedy was listed among the top ten films of 2007.

Monday, Dec. 7, the 13th annual Critics’ Choice Awards named “Juno” best comedy, while Diablo Cody was declared the best first-time screenwriter.
