Developers Suggest The App Store’s Next Moves

Even if Apple’s iPhone store, the App Store, has already offered 15,000 applications and distributed 500 million games and other apps to its avid user base, there are still some issues critics want the company to solve as quickly as possible in order for the store to be close to perfection.

Firstly, developers already said it’s difficult to differentiate to customers between apps that can cost as low as 99 cents and applications on the other end of the spectrum that took a long time to develop, costing much more. It’s clear that cheaper applications dominate the top of the most-downloaded apps, and some suggest making a list that ranks applications by revenue, not downloads, might solve the problem.

Secondly, developers really want other ways to get recognized, such as making the top 100 for a particular category of applications, and ideas include being able to see what your friends have downloaded, because that would help an user decide easier. Furthermore, developers want a little more transparency, and that’s because they always find it difficult to understand when Apple will approve their application.

It’s well known that there have been many apps no one would have thought Apple would reject, and yet they have, for no particular reason. In order to be approved, an app has to ‘wait’ two weeks or two months. Developers would also like for applications to run in the background, so they don’t have to be opened to receive updates and alerts.

On the other hand, many say the market is evolving and Apple has to evolve with it. Even so, the App Store is working fine, so “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” There is still a lot of power and options already there, so we’ll just have to wait and see if Apple will do something about improving the App Store or if it will leave it just the way it’s working now.
