On
September 30, the movie “Iron Man” is scheduled to be released on DVD. Yesterday,
a press conference aimed at promoting this event was held by film
director/writer Jon Favreau, during which he offered the audience exciting
details on the movie’s sequels.
Favreau
stated that The Mandarin, which is Iron Man’s archenemy, would play a major part
in the “Iron Man” franchise as the number one villain, although it is very
likely he would not be appearing on-screen until the third film. Moreover, the
abilities which his rings provided him with will undergo some improvements in
order to meet the high-tech standards the first film has set. Colonel James “Rhodey”
Rhodes, Iron Man’s partner, will be evolving into the War Machine, in the
producers’ attempt to make up for the fact that the character played by actor
Terrence Howard was not given enough screen time in the first movie.
As for Tony
Stark, the leading character portrayed by Robert Downey Junior, the director
said he would be faced with a drinking problem in the upcoming sequels, which
would enable Rhodes to slip into the armored suit for a
change.
Furthermore,
Jon Favreau announced that Justin Theroux, who wrote the screenplay for „Tropic
Thunder”, joined the „Iron Man 2”
team, after having worked with Robert Downey Jr. for the aforementioned movie.
He also informed the audience that he was open to the idea of including 3-D scenes
in the sequel.
Concerning the print comics, Favreau informed that the
current „Invincible Iron Man” has had a lot of influence on his outlining the
ideas for the sequels.
