Actor Gale Harold who plays Teri Hatcher's new boyfriend on ABC's drama "Desperate Housewives" was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Tuesday.
"He has fractured his shoulder and is under observation to assess any possible further injuries," his rep Nancy Selzer was quoted by Usmagazine.com as saying. "Everyone is hopeful for a full recovery. No one else was injured in the accident." Selzer did not provide further details on the Tuesday wreck, which was first reported by TMZ.
The accident reportedly occured yesterday and the 39-year-old former "Queer as Folk star" was rushed to the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit at L.A. County - USC Medical Center. Hospital sources confirmed he is in "stable condition." The show's creator and executive producer Marc Cherry said he apparently has swelling on the brain but is expected to recover.
"We're hearing he's going to be fine, but he's going to be recovering for a couple of weeks," Cherry said adding that Gale was shooting scenes for the show this week and at least one scene was written due to the accident.
The actor, who debuted on the this year's season of "Desperate Housewives" and plays Jackson, Terry Hatcher's character's love interest, has also starred in the short-lived series "Vanished," and made guest appearances on "Grey's Anatomy," "Law and Order: SVU," "Deadwood" and "The Unit." However, it was his breakthrough role as Brian Kinney on Showtime's "Queer as Folk" which is considered one of the most controversial and groundbreaking characters on television in our time, that got him everyone's attention, captivating not only gay audiences, but a surprisingly large base of heterosexual women as well.
Not much is known about Harold, who was born and raised in Decatur, just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. His parents were religious and, while it is known that they were Southern Pentecostal, the American actor refrained from revealing anything else about the people who raised him. Some interviews suggested that Harold alluded there was a great deal of conflict in his family, particularly in regards to religion and sports, but that is all speculation and Gale Harold has never directly come out and stated the bare-bones facts about his family.
