Nicollette Sheridan, the 44-year-old actress who plays Edie Britt in the hit show “Desperate Housewives,” and Michael Bolton, the 55-year-old singer who has told the world that “When a man loves a woman /Can't keep his mind on nothin' else,” have called off their engagement.

The couple first started dating in 1992 and, after a 5-year relationship, they broke up only to realize, in 2005, that their love for each other had not faded in time. In March of the following year, Sheridan and Bolton got engaged.

Nicole Perna, a publicist for both the actress and the singer, told the press that "Nicollette Sheridan and Michael Bolton have amicably ended their engagement. They appreciate your respect for their privacy in this matter,” news agency Reuters informs.

Nicollette Sheridan got married in 1991 to “LA Law” actor Harry Hamlin, but their marriage fell apart only a year later, while Michael Bolton’s marriage to Maureen McGuire lasted from 1975 to 1990.

The former couple recorded a duet called “The Second Time Around” together, which appeared on the 2006 album “Bolton Swings Sinatra.”

The reasons for this unexpected break-up have yet to be discovered. Who knows, maybe Georgia was on his mind. Or a girl from Ipanema.
