Denzel Washington Rejoins Tony Scott For Pelham Remake

Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington will join forces with director Tony Scott once again for a remake of "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" for Columbia Pictures, according to today's Variety.

After they worked together on "Crimson Tide," "Man on Fire" and "Déjà vu," the two are set to reteam for the fourth time on a remake of the 1974 thriller. Washington will portray Lt Zachary "Z" Garber, the part the late Walter Matthau played in the original.

Based on a novel written by John Godey, which was later turned into a TV movie in 1998 starring Edward James Olmos, David Koepp penned the screenplay for the film scheduled to start production sometime in 2008. Koepp’s movie credits include the "Jurassic Park" and "Spider-Man" franchises.

While the original movie follows four armed men who hijack a New York City subway train threatening to kill one passenger each minute unless they’re being paid $1 million within an hour, the remake will update the action to the modern day standards and Lt Garber will become a hero once more.

The 52-year-old star can be seen next in "American Gangster" opposite Australian actor Russell Crowe and Cuba Gooding Jr.

Scott's recent helming credits include the Keira Knightley starrer "Domino."
