Former NBA star player Dennis Rodman was reportedly charged with domestic violence. The former basketball player was arrested a few weeks ago at a hotel for allegedly hitting his girlfriend.

Rodman was charged Wednesday with spousal battery, brandishing a deadly weapon, and one count of dissuading a witness, said Los Angeles City Attorney spokesman Nick Velasquez.

All the charges brought against Rodman are misdemeanors. The 46-year-old former NBA Champion was arrested on April 30 at about 10:15 p.m. in Century City at the Intercontinental Hotel in the 2100 block of Avenue of the Stars. His girlfriend, Gina Peterson, called hotel security after Rodman allegedly beat her.

According to the police report, Rodman had had too much to drink. Things got a little tense inside the hotel room and the two got into a fight. Peterson suffered injuries to her arm, police said.

"His girlfriend of four years sustained visible physical injuries," said Velasquez.

However, Dennis Rodman and Gina Peterson are still dating, the basketball player’s spokesman Darren Prince said.

"We look forward to a successful resolution of this misdemeanor matter," said Rodman's attorney, Paul Meyer according to The Associated Press.

Rodman, former NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls and the Detroit Pistons, must appear in court on May 22. He wouldn’t have had to do it if alleged domestic violence wasn’t involved.

Rodman was booked at the Van Nuys jail on April 20 at 2:50 a.m. He was released on $50,000 bail a few hours later.

Since his arrest, Dennis Rodman checked into a rehab facility in Florida.

"I've never hit anyone," said Rodman for www.tmz.com.

Dennis Rodman became a celebrity after wining the NBA championship first with the Detroit Pistons and then with the Chicago Bulls. However, he was also very well known for his off-court life.

In early 2003, he was arrested for hitting his then-fiancée on her lip at their home in Newport Beach in Southern California's Orange County. His ex-wife Michelle Moyer also said that the main cause why she divorced Rodman was his history of domestic violence.
