Dell, the second-largest computer maker behind HP, unveiled its new luxury line of laptops. The line is called Adamo, which in Latin means to fall in love with or to find pleasure in, and it features two versions, a $2000 one and a $27000 one.
Although it’s "the world's thinnest laptop," as Dell called it, Adamo’s price seems a bit high considering the current economic state. This may be Dell’s first step towards coolness, or, if it doesn’t prove to be a hit, another step towards financial decline. The computer maker isn’t doing really well financially and it’s very vulnerable due to the fact that it receives more than 80% of its revenue from business users which have a low rate of hardware renewing, especially during this economic crisis.
But let’s let Dell mind its business strategy, and take care of our own business:
First of all, the Adamo was developed and launched to rival Apple’s MacBook Air first of all and also HP’s Voodoo Envy and other luxury laptops. The Adamo has a uniform thickness of 0.65 inch, while the MacBook Air has 0.76 inch. However, at four pounds it’s a pound heavier that the MacBook Air.
The first, cheaper version of the Adamo will pack a 1.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU9300 processor, 2 GB of DDR3 memory, a 128 GB SSD, and will run Windows Vista 64-bit pre-installed. The $2700 version has a 1.4 GHz SU9400 processor, 4 GB of memory and wireless HSPA broadband.
The Dell Adamo has a 13.4-inch LED backlit glossy widescreen (16:9) display with a 1,366 x 768 resolution. Just like the MacBook air, the Adamo has a separate external drive and also 250/500 GB external HDDs.
