The Round Rock-based computer maker Dell unveiled today a mini desktop which seems to fit perfectly with today’s demands. The Studio Hybrid is not only ultra-small, but also ultra-green. Dell claims that its new system consumes 70% less power than a standard tower desktop, and that 95% of its packaging is recyclable.
The Studio Hybrid is also 80% smaller than a standard tower desktop and it is designed to be either stood vertically or lay down.
From the technical point of view, Hybrid One is based on an Intel platform and is powered by Pentium dual-core and Core 2 Duo processors.
The new desktop supports up to 4 GB of RAM and it can be equipped with 320 GB hard drives.
The graphic solution is based on Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 and as optical drive Dell offers 8X Slot Load CD/DVD Writer (DVD+/-RW) or 6X Slot Load Blu-ray/CD/DVD Combo Drive.
The Studio Hybrid features also five USB 2.0 compliant ports, an IEEE1394a port (4-pin), a HDMI video connector and a DVI video connector. The system is delivered with Windows Vista Basic, Premium or Ultimate. It also has options for built-in draft 802.11n Wi-Fi, a TV tuner, or a wireless keyboard and mouse.
For the basic configuration, Dell intends to charge US$499, but the desktop can be acquired also with a monitor for prices starting with $689. The Hybrid One will come in six colors and be available through retailers later this year. The desktop will have user-changeable color panels to match any design scheme.
The Hybrind One has a length of 196.5mm (with sleeve), height: 71.5mm (with sleeve) and depth: 211.5mm (with sleeve). It weighs 2.18kg (with stand). Its only drawback seems to be the impossibility to add a better graphic card, but it can be a nice dektop for an office space.
