Dell Rolls Out Its New Portables

Dell Inc. announced the release of its new line of laptops, looking to cement its number one market position. The new products present some very attractive features, from long-running batteries to backlit keyboards and an extremely low weight.

The new bright colors mark the company’s decision to detach from its previous simple releases targeting corporate customers. The Latitude E4200, E4300, E6400 and E6500 portables are available in red and blue, while the E4200 will also be available in pink.

The company’s officials explained that these models were designed using the feedback from their millions of customers, among the many requests being one on a light ultraportable with a high business-level performance. These "digital nomads," as the company calls its customers who take their laptops everywhere, have been Dell’s main focus during the development process of the new portables.

Mr. Jeff Clarke, Dell’s senior vice president, explained that the new models represent a significant design improvement, being superior to the company’s previous releases. For example, its smallest model, The Dell Latitude E4200, with a screen of just 12 inches, weights close to 2.2 pounds, making it lighter than Apple’s MacBook Air.

Another release is the Latitude E6400 ATG, with a 14.1 inch screen, which meets the Military Standard 810F for successfully handling humidity, dust and vibration.

The prices start off at $839 for the ultraportable models and reach $2,399 with the E6400 model.

The company also announced its work on a new technology which will allow users to access their e-mail, the Internet and several other programs without the need for a full system boot.
