Dell bought the company in March, 2006 and initial thought was that its XPS products will go hand in hand with Alienware’s custom-built systems. At the time of the acquisition, the plans regarded both sets of products and Nelson Gonzales, Alienware’s chief executive, was very confident in the company’s capacities. "Dell is going to do what they do," he said as quoted by PCMag. "I'm sure they have no plans of eliminating the XPS. They're going to have their lineup; we're going to have ours." The two lines, Alienware and Dell Renegade were supposed to complement, not compete with each other.
Unfortunately, recent reports showed that the XPS sales have influenced Alienware’s sales and the company badly needed a solution.
"Is Alienware going to be our gaming brand going forward? Yes, this is true," said Anne Camden, a spokeswoman for the company, according to PCMag.
The new Alienware system will be available for $1,699, loaded with 4GB of memory, a 2.2GHz AMD Phenom X4 processor, and a 3870 X2 board with two ATI HD 3870s.
