Following the rumors that Dell is releasing a mysterious series, called the “Adamo”, the company confirmed its existence by placing the name “Adamo” on its website, along with the words “coming soon.” Still, it seems that computer geeks around the world haven’t got enough of it, so “speculation” is the word of the day in what concerns the new Dell desktop/laptop.
As some anonymous sources said, Adamo is expected to be an ultraportable, ultrathin laptop which Dell hopes would take some of Apple’s popular MacBook Air market share. The rumor started when the fashion website UptownLife stated that Dell is going to release a notebook (the Adamo) “that will rival the MacBook Air." Meanwhile, the article was removed from UptownLife’s website, but the rumor is still there, and according to Michael Tatelman, vice president of consumer sales and marketing at Dell, the company has to get “some iconic products out there.” As many users think of Dell as bulky, corporate computers, “sleek” may be the key for Dell’s new line-up.
Another source was cited by Engadget, which claimed that Dell will soon go out with Adamo, which will be marketed as “the world’s thinnest laptop.” Furthermore, it looks like the new computer will be released no sooner than February 2009.
Another possibility is that Adamo would be Dell’s flagship as the greenest computer, because the company has stressed in several occasions that greener and more energy-effective electronics are very important.
For the moment, all we know is that the Adamo might share its design with the new Studio XPS 13 notebook, which features a minimalistic design and leather on a part of its screen lid.
