“Baywatch” star David Hasselhoff was hospitalized earlier this week after having a relapse in his recovery from alcoholism.
The actor has had a difficult year, to say the least, what with an ugly custody feud with his former wife, Pamela Bach, and personal troubles becoming public - and it isn’t quite over yet.
The Hoff was hospitalized after he had a relapse, according to the 55-year-old actor’s representative, Judy Katz, who told Access Hollywood: “David had a brief relapse and immediately recognized the importance of addressing it with the assistance of his doctors. He is doing fine and will be back home in the morning.”
The National Enquirer was apparently first to report that Hasselhoff had been admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for detox.
“He looked awful when they brought him in,” The Enquirer quoted a source as saying. “His color was ashen. He felt sick. It was just so sad.”
As the custody case between Hasselhoff and Bach continued over the summer, a video was leaked on the Internet, showing the actor in a heavily inebriated state. At the time, the “Baywatch” star explained that the tape had been made by his daughters, at his request, so as to show him what he’s like when he’s drunk.
“I am a recovering alcoholic,” he said. “Unfortunately, I did have a brief relapse, but part of recovery is relapse. Because of my honest and positive relationship with my children, who were concerned for my well-being, there was a tape made when I had a relapse to show me what I was like.”
He continued: “I have seen the tape. I have learned from it, and I am back on my game. I hope that others will learn from the tape, as I have. I thank God for the love and concern from my children.”
The tape initially led to Hasselhoff being banned from seeing his daughters however, the judge ultimately found him a more fit parent for 14-year-old Hayley and 17-year-old Taylor.
